Earlier this month, a few of our amazing canyoning guides attended the New Zealand Canyoning Association Festival in Oxford, a small town about an hour’s drive from Christchurch. On the Friday, they had a workshop day that focused on critical aspects of improving canyoner safety. After the workshop, attendees were able to sign up for the different canyoning trips going on Saturday and Sunday.
On the second day, our team went out on an adventure with fellow festival-goers. Starting out on a 4 WD, they drove down a dry riverbed, then continued on foot, crossing 2 river beds, for two hours to reach the Takahe Stream Canyon. This beautiful canyon features 30 metre, 50 metre, and a 61 metre abseil. Our guide Rachel said it was “heaps of fun with lots of different people from all around the world.”
